Dark metal is a term used to refer to bands of the heavy metal subgenres who heavily use dark atmospheres, imagery or themes in their performance. Typically these bands are from the black metal, death metal, doom metal and gothic metal styles.
Dark metal is also a term used to describe bands who prominently feature elements from all of the above genres and their subgenres, or bands who crossover odd combinations of metal genres (Pettalom who combined gothic metal and power metal) making them hard to classify in a generally accepted grouping.
